Forth of July Dessert Cake

🇺🇸 4th of July Poke Cake Ingredients * 1 box white cake mix * Splash of almond extract * 1 (3.4 oz) box strawberry Jell-O * 1 (3.4 oz) box Berry Blue Jell-O * 2 cups boiling water, divided * 1 cup cold water, divided * 8 oz cream cheese, softened * 2 cups powdered sugar * 1½ cups heavy whipping cream * 1 tsp vanilla extract * Red, white & blue sprinkles Instructions 1. Bake the cake. Prepare the white cake mix according to the package directions, adding a splash of almond extract to the batter. Bake in a 9x13-inch pan and let cool completely. 2. Poke the holes. Using the end of a straw (or the handle of a wooden spoon), poke holes all over the cooled cake. 3. Prepare the Jell-O. * In one bowl, dissolve the strawberry Jell-O in 1 cup boiling water, then stir in ½ cup cold water. * In another bowl, dissolve the Berry Blue Jell-O in 1 cup boiling water, then stir in ½ cup cold water. 4. Fill the cake. Slowly pour the strawberry Jell-O into half of the holes to create the red stripes. Pour the Berry Blue Jell-O into the corner of the cake to create the blue section of the flag. Chill the cake for 4 to 6 hours, or overnight for best results. 5. Make the topping. Beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Slowly stir in 1½ cups heavy whipping cream and continue beating until the icing forms stiff peaks. 6. Frost the cake. Spread the topping evenly over the chilled cake. 7. Decorate. Create an American flag design using red sanding sugar for the stripes, blue sanding sugar for the corner, and red, white & blue sprinkles. 8. Chill & serve.
